Annotation: The article discusses the personal and social characteristics of children with impaired mental functions undergoing medical and social examination to establish the category of “disabled childˮ. The results of comparing two groups are presented: children who were assigned the category “disabled childˮ according to the results of the examination, and children who were not assigned this category. Personal and social features were diagnosed using the children's version of R. Kettell's multifactorial personality questionnaire, R. Gilles' method “Film test interpersonal relationships of a childˮ, observation cards. Statistically significant differences in the characteristics of children with different levels of mental disorders were obtained: according to the degree of sociability, verbal intelligence, self-confidence, social courage and risk-taking, sense of responsibility, sensitivity and self-control; according to communication and adaptation strategies in the family and external society. The main conclusion of the study was the statement that conducting a medical and social examination requires taking into account not only the types, persistence and severity of mental disorders, but also to assess the personal and social characteristics of children. This will allow the psychologist to identify the personal potential of the child and the need for specific rehabilitation measures and social support measures.
Keywords: personality traits, medical and social expertise, mental disorders, “disabled childˮ, social interaction
