Annotation: The purpose of the article is to emphasize the mechanisms for managing students' competencies as a resource for improving the quality of education. The socio-economic prerequisites that affect the content and structure of personnel training, the main crisis tendencies that are manifested in society, are considered. Among the factors influencing the training of university specialists, new characteristics of processes in general and vocational education have been identified. The specifics of the management of educational programs, which is directly related to standardization, the transition to the management of qualifications, are analyzed. The areas of improvement in the management of educational programs are identified, an approximate result is formulated, confirming the fact of effective management of the program. The emphasis in the article is on the mechanisms for managing students' competencies, which are formed on the basis of the Federal State Educational Standard, the development program of the university, as well as the possibilities of the educational space of the university with its modern learning formats. Groups of competencies are proposed, which, on the one hand, are associated with the basic qualities of a person, and, on the other hand, support behavior in a changing situation. The content of the interdisciplinary online course “Start Careerˮ is shown, aimed at supporting the student's professional competencies and concretizing employment prospects. A list of mechanisms for the development of students' competencies in the educational process of the university is formulated.
