Annotation: The paper presents some modern family development trends. Along with destructive processes in families, there are positive transformations, one of which includes the growing parents` role in children`s upbringing and development. Despite its positive nature, the so-called over-involved, excessive parenthood is associated with stress experienced by parents, future ones included. Pregnancy is discussed as a context of maternal, paternal and dyadic stress, considered as individual phenomena associated with multi-transformations of future parents (physiological, psychological, personal, sociocultural). The concept of direct and indirect prenatal dyadic stress is introduced as a meta-individual phenomenon connected with tension within a couple, requiring mutual efforts to cope with it. Expecting-a-baby period is analysed as a source of fears of pregnancy and childbirth. The specification of the fear of pregnancy in childbirth in women is discussed; h hypothesis about men having it either is put forward.
Keywords: modern family, pregnancy, maternal and paternal stress, direct vs indirect dyadic prenatal stress, fear of pregnancy and childbirth.
